Olsen won the NASCAR Busch North Series championship in 2001 and repeated that feat in 2006 when it was known as the NASCAR Busch East Series, racing in 288 events between 1989 and 2009 on what is now known as the K&N Pro Series East. He also managed a career-best 18th-place finish in a Busch Series event at Watkins Glen in 1997. After a lengthy hiatus from NASCAR racing, Olsen returned to competition at the 2012 K&N Pro Series West race at Portland and finished in 24th place. He made his Sprint Cup Series debut in September 2012 at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire and finished in 33rd place.
