Leffler began driving full time on the Busch Series in 2000 with the MBNA sponsored team. His best finish was a second place at Phoenix and he went on to place 20th in the driver standings. His successful rookie season earned him a full-time drive in the Cup Series with Chip Ganassi Racing the following season. After recording only one Top 10 finish he was replaced on the team by Jimmy Spencer for the 2002 season. He would race in only 32 Cup races for a few different teams over the next four seasons without recording another Top 10 win. He found more success on the Busch Series and the Truck Series where he posted three wins combined. He returned to the Cup Series in 2008 in the Pocono 500 driving for Braun Racing.
