Coleman made his debut in the Busch Series in 2006 at the young age of 18. A year later he drove in 17 races in the Busch Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, posting three Top 5 finishes. In 2008 he began driving fulltime in the Nationwide Series and after signing on with Hall of Fame Racing he also made his debut in the Sprint Cup Series after the dismissal of J.J. Yeley. In his debut in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway Coleman placed 38th.
