Kahne wins at California
Reed Sorenson ran out of gas with one lap remaining Sunday night, allowing Kasey Kahne to move into first place and claim the checkered flag in the SONY HD 500 at the California Speedway.
Kahne remains in 11th place in the Nextel Cup standings, but now only sits 30 points behind 10th place holder Jeff Burton for the last Chase spot with only one race left before the Chase for the Nextel Cup begins.
Matt Kenseth finished seventh at California and overtook Jimmie Johnson, who was 11th, to takeover first place in the Nextel Cup standings. Kenseth holds a 16-point lead over Johnson.
Finishing behind Kahne Sunday night were Dale Earnhardt Jr. in second, Clint Bowyer in third and Carl Edwards in fourth. Jeff Gordon was fifth followed by Denny Hamlin in sixth. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 were Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart and Dale Jarrett.
The drivers of NASCAR roll into the Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, September 9 for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400.
