Stewart wins at Kansas

Tony Stewart held off Casey Mears on the final lap Sunday afternoon to claim the checkered flag in the Banquet 400 at the Kansas Speedway.

Mark Martin was the first racer still in the Chase to cross the finish line in third place. Jeff Burton, who was fifth at Kansas continues to lead the Nextal Cup standings. Burton holds a 64 point lead over second place Denny Hamlin.

Dale Jarret was fourth at Kansas on Sunday, followed by Burton in fifth. Carl Edwards was sixth and Kyle Busch was seventh. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 were Brian Vickers, Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt. Jr.

With seven races remaining in the Chase Burton, Hamlin and Martin occupy the top three positions in the points standings. Matt Kenseth is fourth and Kevin Harvick is fifth. Jeff Gordon dropped to sixth after failing to finish the race at Kansas and Earnhardt Jr. is seventh. Jimmie Johnson is eight, Kyle Busch is ninth and Kasey Kahne rounds out the Chase field in tenth place.

The drivers of NASCAR return to the track next week at the Talladega Superspeedway in the UAW-Ford 500.
