Smith wins at Darlington

Regan Smith held off Carl Edwards on the final laps Saturday night to record his first career Sprint Cup win in the Showtime Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

Following Smith and Edwards across the finish line was Brad Keselowski in third, Kasey Kahne in fourth and Ryan Newman in fifth. Denny Hamlin was sixth, Tony Stewart was seventh and Greg Biffle was eighth. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 was Jamie McMurray and Martin Truex Jr.

The second place finish at Darlington allowed Edwards to hold on to first place in the driver standings with 378 points. He now has a 23-point lead on Jimmie Johnson, who finished 15th on Saturday night.

The Sprint Cup Series returns to the track next week at Denver International Speedway in the FedEx 400.
