Mets silence streaking Red Sox

The New York Mets snapped Boston’s three-game win streak Friday night, as they defeated the Red Sox 5-3 in the opener of a three-game series at Fenway Park.

New York won the game as a +105 underdog, while the eight runs went UNDER the posted over/under (9).

Gary Sheffield belted a solo home run and scored two runs for the Mets. Johan Santan whiffed eight batters to improve his record to 6-2, and Francisco Rodriguez notched his 12th save.

Jason Varitek went deep and drove in two of the three Red Sox runs. Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up four runs over five innings in the loss.
