Orioles fend off Rays; avoid sweep
The Baltimore Orioles gave up three runs in the eighth inning, but managed to pull out an 8-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday night to avoid a three-game sweep at Tropicana Field.
Baltimore won the game as +240 underdogs, while the 15 runs sailed OVER the posted over/under (9.5).
Brian Roberts went 2-for-5 at the plate, including a grand slam home run for the Orioles. Brian Matusz allowed seven hits and four runs over 5 1-3 innings to earn the win.
Ben Zobrist launched a three-run homer and finished with four RBIs for the Rays. James Shields surrendered seven hits and four runs over 5 2-3 innings in suffering the loss.
