Vargas, Mariners blank Cubs

Jason Vargas threw seven shutout innings to get the win in the Seattle Mariners' 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.

Seattle won as -110 home favorites, while the teams played UNDER the 7-run total set by oddsmakers.

Franklin Gutierrez smashed a two-run blast for the Mariners, as David Aardsma pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save for Seattle.

Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 for Chicago, while Ryan Dempster allowed two runs over eight innings to take the loss for the Cubs.
