Rays chip away at White Sox

Jeff Niemann tossed eight solid innings Thursday, and the Tampa Bay Rays toppled the Chicago White Sox 5-1 in the opener of a four-game series at Tropicana Field.

The Rays won the game as -183 favorites, while the teams played UNDER the posted over/under (8.5) set by sportsbooks.

Carl Crawford homered and drove in a pair of runs, while Evan Longoria also went deep for the Rays.

Gavin Floyd surrendered four hits and three earned runs over seven innings in the loss.
