Mets down lowly Pirates

Chris Carter homered and drove in a pair of runs to lead the New York Mets over the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 Friday night at PNC Park.

The Mets won the game as -130 favorties, and the nine runs made it OVER the posted over/under (8) set by sportsbooks.

Josh Thole also drove in a pair of runs for the Mets, and Mike Pelfrey pitched eight solid innings for his 12th win.

Jeff Karstens was rocked for 11 hits and seven runs over 3 1-3 innings in the Pirates loss.
