Ohio State holds off Fighting Irish for Fiesta Bowl

No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes held off a late charge by No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish for a 34-20 victory Monday in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Buckeyes came into the game favored by a 4-point margin and made good on covering the spread. The game’s 54 points fell just UNDER the posted total (56).

Buckeyes QB Troy Smith threw for an amazing 325 yards going 19-for-28 and passing for two touchdowns. Ohio State amassed a whopping 604 total yards in the title game.

Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, a 3000 yard passer this season, threw 29 passes and tallied 294 yards on 45 attempts in a losing cause. Ohio State’s defense sacked Quinn five times in the Bowl game.
