Northwestern victorious in emotional opener
Northwestern used the death of former coach Randy Walker and a stingy defense to win their season opener over Miami (OH) 21-3 at Yager Stadium.
Northwestern won the game on the road and covered the 6-point spread, but the combined score of 24 was well UNDER the posted total of 55.5.
Mike Kafka was 13-for-17 for 104 yards and one touchdown, and added 93 yards on the ground. Tyrell Sutton rushed for 64 yards for the Wildcats.
Mike Kokal threw for 182 yards on 16-for-26 passing, and Ryne Robinson caught nine passes for 143 yards for the RedHawks.
