Houston captures C-USA crown over UTEP
The Houston Cougars shocked the C-USA by knocking off the UTEP Miners, 81-73, in the C-USA championship game at the Bank of Oklahoma Center Saturday afternoon.
Houston covered as a 7-point underdog while the final score played over the 144-point total.
The Cougars were led by Kelvin Lewis' 28 points including six 3-point buckets. Aubrey Coleman and Zamal Nixon each chipped in with 13 points to send Houston to the NCAA Tournament.
The Miners got 20 points from Randy Culpepper, who hit just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. Derrick Caracter added 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
