The battle between West Virginia and American didnt turn out to be much of a battle at all as American was handed a 71-50 defeat on Wednesday at WVU Colliseum.
West Virginia got 27 points from Casey Mitchell and another 16 points from Kevin Jones. Darryl Bryant contributed 4 assists, while John Flowers cleaned the glass with 6 rebounds.
American got a 19-point performance from Vlad Moldoveanu, who was supported by 9 points from Troy Brewer. Steve Luptak had 3 assists in a losing cause for American, while Stephen Lumpkins grabbed 6 rebounds.
West Virginia led at halftime, 32-20.
West Virginia won the battle of the boards, outrebounding their counterparts 34-28.
