Fairfield got 15 points from Derek Needham en route to a 61-52 victory over Rider on Monday at Webster Bank Arena.
Fairfield did not, however, defeat Rider against the spread, which closed at 11.5 at most sportsbooks.
Fairfield got 13 points from Rakim Sanders and another 12 points from Colin Nickerson. Derek Needham contributed 6 assists, while Rakim Sanders cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds.
Rider got 11 points from Daniel Stewart in a losing cause and another 11 points from Brandon Penn. Jonathon Thompson contributed 4 assists for them, while Brandon Penn had 7 rebounds.
Fairfield hit the break leading 35-28 before taking care of business in the second half.
Rider won the battle of the boards, outrebounding their counterparts 35-30.
