Plenette Pierson scored a team-high 26 points in leading the Detroit Shock to a 108-100 win over the Phoenix Mercury in Game 1 of the Finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday night.
Detroit covered the 2.5-point spread, and the 208 points sailed OVER the posted total of 178.5.
Katie Smith shot 4-for-13 from the field, but added 22 points for the Shock. Kara Braxton chipped in with 19 points in coming off the bench.
Penny Taylor led the Mercury with a game-high 32 points, and Cappie Pondexter added 27 in a losing effort.
