Veteran Sun defeat revamped Liberty
The defending Eastern Conference champion Connecticut Sun defeated the New York Liberty 91-74 Saturday in season-opening play for both teams.
Connecticut came into the game as 11-point favorites and made good on covering the spread. The final score sailed well OVER the posted total (136.5).
Nykesha Sales notched a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while shooting 7-for-12 from the field in the win.
Becky Hammon threw in a game-high 20 points, with five boards and four assists in the loss.
