Marshall Defeats Memphis 23-22 - Recap
Marshall earned a 23-22 victory over Memphis on Thursday in Week 12 action at Liberty Bowl.
Marshall did not, however, defeat the Tigers against the spread, which closed at 13.5 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 50.5.
Rakeem Cato completed 13 of 23 pass attempts for 150 yards for the Thundering Herd in the win. He was picked off 2 times by the Tigers defense.
Tom Hornsey rushed for 27 yards for Memphis, while Billy Foster added 20 yards. Andy Summerlin threw for 129 yards for the Tigers, while receivers Tannar Rehrer and Kevin Wright had 91 and 83 yards respectively.
Memphis lost the offensive yardage battle to Marshall 293-277 yards in Thursday's game. Memphis had more first downs as that total ended up 17-15.
Marshall lost the time of possession battle 33:04/26:56, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Marshall heads into a Week 13 battle against East Carolina. Memphis, meanwhile, will have their next action against Southern Miss.
