Houston squeaks past Rice

The Houston Cougars squeaked past the Rice Owls 31-30 in dramatic fashion Saturday night in their season opener.

Houston could not cover the 14.5-point spread and the game's 61 points made it OVER the posted total (52).

Kevin Kolb threw two touchdowns in the fourth-quarter as Houston came from behind for the win and he completed 22-of-35 for 233 yards.

Quarterback Chase Clements threw for 123 yards and Quinton Smith scored three times in the second-quarter onslaught that saw them post 27 points alone, but still ended up blowing a lead.
