Late surge lifts Owls
Rice outscored East Carolina 9-0 in the fourth quarter as the Owls squeaked past the Pirates 18-17 at Rice Stadium on Saturday.
The Owls were 2.5-point home underdogs, and the 35 points scored were UNDER the posted total of 57.
Chase Clement was 17-for-29 for 182 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Quinton Smith ran for 115 yards on 21 carries for the Owls.
James Pinkney went 10-for-17 for 83 yards, one score, and two picks, while Chris Johnson had 83 rushing yards on 12 carries and a major for the Pirates.
