Cougars Down Rice 35-14 - Match Report
David Piland sliced and diced the Owls defense for 361 yards as Houston handed Rice a 35-14 defeat on Saturday at Reliant Stadium.
Houston won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the 9.5-point spread as favorites. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 69.5.
Charles Sims rushed for 158 yards, while Braxton Welford added 36 yards in the win. Larry McDuffey and Daniel Spencer added 100 and 99 receiving yards respectively.
Charles Ross rushed for 52 yards for Rice, while Jeremy Eddington added 35 yards. Driphus Jackson threw for 272 yards for the Owls, while receivers Sam McGuffie and Donte Moore had 119 and 44 yards respectively.
Rice lost the offensive yardage battle to Houston 608-343 yards in Saturday's game. Houston had more first downs as that total ended up 30-17.
The time of possession battle favored Rice as their offense was on the field for 30:47, longer than the 29:13 of their opponents.
Houston looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against North Texas. Rice will aim to get back on the winning track at Memphis.
