Iowa State edges Toledo in season-opening shootout

Bret Meyer threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns as the Iowa State Cyclones nipped the Toledo Rockets 45-43 in overtime at Jack Trice Stadium.

Iowa State failed to cover the spread as 8.5-point favorites at home, but the 88 points scored was well OVER the posted total of 56.

Stevie Hicks ran 23 times for 92 yards and one touchdown for the Cyclones, while Todd Blythe caught five balls for 94 yards and two TDs.

Clint Cochran was 39-for-49 for 370 yards, and three touchdowns and one interception for the Rockets. Chris Hopkins caught 13 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in a losing cause.
