Illinois use ground game to get past Spartans

Quarterback Tim Brasic ran in for two touchdowns and the Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the San Jose State Spartans 40-19 on Saturday night.

Illinois were listed as 14-point favorites and were able to cover the spread on this day. The combined score of 59 fell just UNDER the posted over/under (60).

Brasic completed 17 of 22 passes for 196 yards with one interception in the win.

Pierre Thomas Jr. rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while E.B. Halsey picked up 76 yards and a score on the ground.

Trestin George returned a kickoff for a 96-yard touchdown, while tight end Bryan Watje caught seven passes for 115 yards in the loss.
