Bears stop Chargers in their tracks
The Chicago Bears defeated the San Diego Chargers 24-3 in NFL preseason action on Friday night.
The Bears entered the game as 3.5-point favorites and easily covered the spread at home. The game's combined score of 27 points was UNDER the posted total of 34.5 points.
Pro Bowl LB Brian Urlacher returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter. QB Rex Grossman completed 7 of 14 passing attempts for 83 yards and one interception. Brian Griese completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Justin Gage, and Rashied Davis added a major on a 100-yard kickoff return.
For the Chargers, QB Philip Rivers completed 9 of 14 passing attempts for 75 yards. Rookie QB Charlie Whitehurst was good on 11 of 19 attempts for 97 yards. Both pivots were picked off once.
San Diego rested star running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
