Paul Stastny scored for the Avalanche in regulation, and Marek Svatos netted the shootout winner. Peter Budaj stopped 31 shots in the win.
Taylor Pyatt scored on a penalty shot for the Canucks. Roberto Luongo made 33 saves in a losing effort.
