Boston opened the game with two goals in the first period from Blake Wheeler and Phil Kessel. Chuck Kobasew added a goal in the second and David Krejci fired the nail in the coffin seven minutes into the final period. Goaltender Manny Fernandez made 29 saves in just his ninth start of the season.
Detroit got its lone goal from Jiri Hudler on the powerplay. Goaltenders Chris Osgood and Ty Conklin allowed four goals on just 19 shots.
