Flyers edge Canes in extra time

The Philadelphia Flyers needed overtime to steal a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at RBC Center Saturday night.

Philadelphia won as a +100 road underdog while the final score played under the 5.5-goal total.

Jeff Carter scored the unassisted winner in overtime. Mike Richards collected a short-handed goal for the Flyers in the first period. Goaltender Antero Niittymaki made 35 saves for the win.

The Hurricanes got a third-period goal from Sergei Samsonov to force the extra period. Goalie Mike Leighton turned away 29 of 31 shots.
