Carolina won as -250 home favorites as the game played over the 5.5-goal total set by sportsbooks.
Matt Cullen had two markers and a helper for the Hurricanes, who got three assists from both Ray Whitney and Joe Corvo in the payday.
Frans Nielsen recorded a goal and an assist for New York, while Tim Jackman finished with a pair of helpers for the Islanders.
