Capitals take Game 1 over Penguins
The Washington Capitals drew first blood with a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Verizon Center to take a 1-0 second-round series lead Saturday.
Washington won as a -135 home favorite while the final score played under the 5.5-goal total.
Capitals goaltender Simeon Varlamov turned away 34-of-36 shots in the win. Dave Steckel, Alex Ovechkin and Tomas Fleischmann all scored in Game 1.
Sidney Crosby netted a first period goal for the Penguins while Mark Eaton added another in the second period.
