The Colorado Avalanche improved to 5-1 as they slipped past the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 Thursday night in their home-opener at the Bell Centre.

Milan Hejduk, Kyle Cumiskey, and Ryan O`Reilly scored for the Avalanche. Craig Anderson made 29 saves in the win.
