The Washington Capitals held a three-goal lead late and managed to hang on and defeat the Atlanta Thrashers 5-4 Thursday night.

Eric Fehr, Alexandre Giroux, Mike Knuble, Jeff Schultz, Matt Bradley, and Chris Clark scored for the Capitals.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored a pair of goals for the Thrashers, while singles came from Maxim Afinogenov and Zach Bogosian.
