Islanders edged Sabres in shootout

The New York Islanders went deep into their lineup, getting a game-winning shootout goal from Trent Hunter for a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Saturday.

New York won as a +123 home underdog while the final score played UNDER the 5.5-goal total.

Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro made his homecoming after missing more than a year due to injury. He made 31 saves and came up big in the shootout. John Tavares and Sean Bergenheim scored in regulation.

The Sabres got goals from Mike Grier and Drew Stafford while goaltender Ryan Smith made 36 saves in the loss.
