Marshall Defeats Houston 44-41 - Recap
Rakeem Cato was good for 377 yards through the air on Saturday as the Thundering Herd got past the Cougars by a score of 44-41 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
The Thundering Herd won the battle on the scoreboard, but not at the payout window as they failed to cover the 3.5-point spread. OVER bettors were rewarded when the final score pointed to an OVER play.
Kevin Grooms rushed for 155 yards, while Essray Taliaferro added 66 yards in the win. Tommy Shuler and Antavious Wilson added 105 and 72 receiving yards respectively.
Kenneth Farrow rushed for 78 yards for Houston, while Ryan Jackson added 20 yards. Crawford Jones threw for 316 yards for the Cougars, while receivers Xavier Maxwell and Deontay Greenberry had 62 and 60 yards respectively.
Houston was outgained by Marshall 665-430 yards in Saturday's match, while the important battle of first downs was won 37-23 by the Thundering Herd.
Houston lost the time of possession battle 32:55/27:05, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Next game, Marshall takes its act on the road to face East Carolina looking for another win. For Houston, they head home to face Tulane.
