The battle between the Flames and Blue Jackets didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Columbus was handed a 6-2 defeat on Friday at Nationwide Arena.
The Flames were a +135 underdog in the win. The combined score went OVER the total, which closed at 5.
Calgary got goals from Rene Bourque (3), Alex Tanguay, Niklas Hagman, and Ian White in the victory. Hagman opened the scoring at 8:13 of the first period.
Henrik Karlsson turned in a 20-save effort for the Flames.
Jan Hejda and Derek Dorsett scored for the Blue Jackets, finding the net behind Henrik Karlsson.
Columbus got a 17-stop effort from Steve Mason in the loss.
On the power play, Calgary went 0-for-6, while the Blue Jackets were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Columbus lost the shots on goal battle to Calgary by a margin of 23-22.
Next game, Calgary takes its act home to face San Jose looking for another win. For Columbus, they head on the road to face Chicago.
