The Avalanche got a 3-goal performance from Chris Stewart as Colorado handed Calgary a 6-5 defeat on Thursday at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Chris Stewart (3), Daniel Winnik, T.J. Galiardi, and Brandon Yip each scored for the Avalanche in the victory. Stewart opened the scoring for Colorado, finding the back of the net at 7:47 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk.

Peter Budaj turned in a 14-save effort for the Avalanche.

Calgary got goals from Olli Jokinen, Alex Tanguay, Niklas Hagman, Tim Jackman, and Matt Stajan in the loss, but it wasn't enough.

Henrik Karlsson stopped 30 of 36 shots for the Flames, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

On the power play, Colorado went 1-for-6, while the Flames were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

Calgary lost the shots on goal battle to Colorado by a margin of 36-19.

Next game, Colorado takes its act home to face Columbus looking for another win. For Calgary, they head home to face Washington.
