The battle between the Canucks and Oilers didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Edmonton was handed a 6-1 defeat on Friday at Rogers Arena.
Vancouver was favored by -295 and came through for bettors backing them. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 5.5.
Ryan Kesler (3), Daniel Sedin (2), and Alexander Edler each scored for the Canucks in the victory. Sedin opened the scoring for Vancouver, finding the back of the net at 0:30 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Henrik Sedin and Kevin Bieksa.
Cory Schneider turned in a 23-save effort for the Canucks.
Edmonton got a goal from Ales Hemsky in the loss, but it wasn't enough.
Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 28 of 34 shots for the Oilers, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Vancouver went 2-for-4, while the Oilers were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Edmonton lost the shots on goal battle to Vancouver by a margin of 34-24.
Next game, Vancouver takes its act home to face Detroit looking for another win. For Edmonton, they head on the road to face Dallas.
