Peter Budaj stopped 26 of 30 Detroit shots in the victory.
Tomas Holmstrom, Brian Rafalski, Henrik Zetterberg, and Jan Mursak scored for the Red Wings, finding the net behind Peter Budaj.
Detroit got a 15-stop effort from Joey MacDonald in the loss.
On the power play, Colorado went 0-for-5, while the Red Wings were 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
Colorado lost the shots on goal battle to Detroit by a margin of 30-26.
