The win was clinched by Dominic Moore, who beat Tomas Vokoun in a shootout to gain the extra point in the standings for Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay got goals from Steve Downie in the victory. Downie opened the scoring at 14:05 of the first period.
Dan Ellis turned in a 29-save effort for the Lightning.
Florida got a goal from Cory Stillman in the loss, but it wasn't enough.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 20 of 21 shots for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Tampa Bay went 0-for-1, while the Panthers were 0-for-7 with the man advantage.
Florida outshot Tampa Bay 30-21 in the game.
Tampa Bay looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Thrashers. The Panthers will aim to get back on the winning track at New Jersey.
