Stafford opened the scoring for Buffalo, finding the back of the net at 17:48 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Thomas Vanek and Tim Connolly.

Montreal got a 30-stop effort from Carey Price in the loss.
On the power play, Buffalo went 1-for-2, while the Canadiens were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
Buffalo lost the shots on goal battle to Montreal by a margin of 34-32.
Buffalo heads into a battle against the Maple Leafs. Montreal, meanwhile, will have their next action against Edmonton.
