The battle between the Penguins and Oilers didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Edmonton was handed a 5-1 defeat on Sunday at Consol Energy Centre.
The Penguins were a -235 favorite in the win. The combined score went OVER the total, which closed at 5.5.
Chris Kunitz (2), Zbynek Michalek, Max Talbot, and Jordan Staal each scored for the Penguins in the victory. Kunitz opened the scoring for Pittsburgh, finding the back of the net at 19:25 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Tyler Kennedy and Jordan Staal.
Marc-Andre Fleury turned in a 28-save effort for the Penguins.
Ryan Jones scored for the Oilers, finding the net behind Marc-Andre Fleury.
Devan Dubnyk stopped 28 of 33 shots for the Oilers, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Pittsburgh went 1-for-6, while the Oilers were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Pittsburgh outshot Edmonton 33-29 in the game.
Pittsburgh heads into a battle against the Senators. Edmonton, meanwhile, will have their next action against Phoenix.
