Washington earned a 3-2 victory over Toronto on Tuesday, but needed a shootout to do it at Air Canada Centre.

Bettors who backed the Capitals were rewarded as -110 favorites at sportsbooks. Over-Under bettors saw the total score go UNDER the closing total of 5.5.

The win was clinched by Mike Knuble, who beat James Reimer in a shootout to gain the extra point in the standings for Washington. Washington got goals from John Erskine and Alex Ovechkin in the victory. Ovechkin opened the scoring at 11:28 of the first period.

Michal Neuvirth turned in a 19-save effort for the Capitals.

Joffrey Lupul and Nikolai Kulemin scored for the Maple Leafs, finding the net behind Michal Neuvirth.

James Reimer stopped 39 of 41 shots for the Maple Leafs, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

Washington scored 1 time on 3 chances on the power play, while Toronto went 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Washington outshot Toronto 41-21 in the game.

Next game, Washington takes its act home to face Florida looking for another win. For Toronto, they head on the road to face New Jersey.
