Washington vs Carolina Wrap - Washington Wins 5-1

The battle between the Capitals and Hurricanes didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Carolina was handed a 5-1 defeat on Friday at RBC Center.

Bettors who backed the Capitals were rewarded as -120 favorites at sportsbooks. Over-Under bettors saw the total score go OVER the closing total of 5.5.

Washington got goals from Jeff Halpern, Troy Brouwer, Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, and Cody Eakin in the victory. Halpern opened the scoring at 1:28 of the second period.

Michal Neuvirth turned in a 24-save effort for the Capitals.

Carolina got a goal from Anthony Stewart in the loss, but it wasn't enough.

Cam Ward stopped 27 of 32 shots for the Hurricanes, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

On the power play, Washington went 1-for-3, while the Hurricanes were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Washington outshot Carolina 32-25 in the game.

Next game, Washington takes its act on the road to face New York looking for another win. For Carolina, they head home to face Dallas.
