Montreal needed a shootout to earn a 4-3 victory over Carolina on Wednesday in NHL action at RBC Center.

Brian Gionta clinched the win with a shootout goal in round 3 for the Canadiens. Michael Cammalleri, Travis Moen, and Lars Eller each scored for the Canadiens in the victory. Eller opened the scoring for Montreal, finding the back of the net at 9:06 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Raphael Diaz.

Carey Price turned in a 30-save effort for the Canadiens.

Anthony Stewart, Jiri Tlusty, and Brandon Sutter scored for the Hurricanes, finding the net behind Carey Price.

Cam Ward stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Hurricanes, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

On the power play, Montreal went 0-for-3, while the Hurricanes were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Carolina lost the shots on goal battle to Montreal by a margin of 34-33.

Montreal looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Flyers. The Hurricanes will aim to get back on the winning track vs Winnipeg.
