Young runs Texas to National Championship
Quarterback Vince Young rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on Wednesday to carry the No. 2 Texas Longhorns to a National Championship and a 41-38 win over the No. 1 USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl.
The Longhorns, who finished the season with a perfect 13-0 record, won this game as 7-point underdogs. The game’s combined 79 points went OVER the posted total (69.5).
The Trojans were denied their third straight National Championship, and had their 34-game winning streak halted by the Longhorns.
Young, who was named the offensive player of the game, also threw for 267 yards with no interceptions. Selvin Young and Ramonce Taylor added a touchdown each on the ground for Texas.
Matt Leinart completed 29-of-40 passes for 367 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. LenDale White rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns in the losing cause, and Reggie Bush was held to 80 yards rushing and a TD. Dwayne Jarrett had 10 catches for 124 yards and a TD for USC.
