Recap - Penguins Defeat Montreal 5-4

The Canadiens came up short Friday against the Penguins, falling 5-4 in a shootout.

Pittsburgh was favored by -165 and came through for bettors backing them. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 5.5.

The win was clinched by Evgeni Malkin, who beat Peter Budaj in a shootout to gain the extra point in the standings for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh got goals from Dustin Jeffrey (2), Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang in the victory. Letang opened the scoring at 4:02 of the first period.

Marc-Andre Fleury turned in a 25-save effort for the Penguins.

Montreal got goals from Erik Cole, Andrei Kostitsyn, Lars Eller, and Max Pacioretty in the loss, but it wasn't enough.

Montreal got a 34-stop effort from Peter Budaj in the loss.

On the power play, Pittsburgh went 0-for-4, while the Canadiens were 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Pittsburgh outshot Montreal 38-29 in the game.

Pittsburgh looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Capitals. The Canadiens will aim to get back on the winning track at Toronto.
