Buffalo got goals from Drew Stafford (2), Cody McCormick, Jason Pominville, and Thomas Vanek in the victory. McCormick opened the scoring at 8:45 of the first period.
Ryan Miller turned in a 44-save effort for the Sabres.
Washington got a goal from Alexander Semin in the loss, but it wasn't enough.
Braden Holtby stopped 15 of 18 shots for the Capitals, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Buffalo went 0-for-1, while the Capitals were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Washington outshot Buffalo 45-31 in the game.
Buffalo looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Penguins. The Capitals will aim to get back on the winning track at Boston.
