The win was clinched by Damien Brunner, who beat Sergei Bobrovsky in a shootout to gain the extra point in the standings for Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk, Ian White, and Brian Lashoff each scored for the Red Wings in the victory. Lashoff opened the scoring for Detroit, finding the back of the net at 1:10 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Mikael Samuelsson and Niklas Kronwall.
Jimmy Howard stopped 30 of 33 Columbus shots in the victory.
Columbus got goals from Vinny Prospal, James Wisniewski, and Cam Atkinson in the loss, but it wasn't enough.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 39 of 42 shots for the Blue Jackets, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
Detroit scored 0 times on 7 chances on the power play, while Columbus went 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
Detroit outshot Columbus 42-33 in the game.
