Spartans win large in Big 10 matchup with Illinois
Drew Stanton completed 20-of-26 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns to help lead the No. 17 Michigan State Spartans to a 61-14 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday.
The Spartans were 9-point favorites on the road in this one and easily covered the spread. The Spartans' 61 points alone went OVER the posted total (59.5).
Backup quarterback Brian Hoyer came into the game in the fourth quarter and completed 6-of-8 passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Dwayne Holmes had two TD receptions, while Kellen Davis, Kerry Reed, Matt Trannon, Jerramy Scott and Kyle Brown all reeled in one touchdown catch each in the victory.
Tim Brasic threw for 146 yards and tossed touchdown strikes to Rashard Mendenhall and Pierre Thomas Jr. in the loss for Illinois.
