Basanez carries Northwestern past Illinois
Brett Basanez threw for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead the Northwestern Wildcats to a 38-21 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday.
The Wildcats were listed as 15.5-point favorites on the road in this one and were just able to cover the spread. The game’s combined 59 points fell UNDER the posted total (62.5).
Basanez ended the game completing 25-of-31 passes for 240 yards, and had 83 yards on the ground for the Wildcats. Gerald Hamlett rushed for a TD, while Mark Philmore and Frayne Abernathy had a TD catch each.
Tim Brasic completed 20-of-35 passes for 237 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. Derrick McPhearson and Jason Davis had the touchdown receptions for Illinois.
